#1 Seed 2023 Baseball Regional

Otters Stay Home As Region’s Top Seed

CSUMB will host Point Loma, Cal Poly Pomona May 18-20

May 14, 2023

SEASIDE, Calif. — For the sixth time in the last nine seasons, the Cal State Monterey Bay baseball team is headed to the NCAA Tournament. This time, however, the Otters will enjoy some home cooking as they host the NCAA Division II West Regional I Tournament May 18–20 at the Otter Sports Complex.

CSUMB (36–16), enters the tournament as the top seed in the West. The Otters will host #4 seed Point Loma Nazarene (36–14) and No. 5 seed Cal Poly Pomona (28–21) in a double elimination format.

Point Loma and Pomona will open the tournament Thursday (May 18) at 11 a.m. The Otters will play the loser of that game Thursday afternoon.

"One of the best college baseball tournaments is coming to CSUMB…how cool is that?" says CSUMB Head Coach Walt White. "I know our athletic department and all involved are excited about hosting and creating a great environment. Our team's overall body of work this season earned us this opportunity and we look forward to competing against the best teams in the West Region."

The Otters are 5–10 all–time in NCAA Tournament competition, including a 2–2 mark at last season's regional, where they fell to Azusa Pacific in the title game in Azusa.

The other West Regional tournament will feature No. 2 seed Cal State San Bernardino (38–17) hosting No. 3 seed Azusa Pacific (34–17) and No. 6 seed Western Oregon (30–13) in San Bernardino. The winners of the two regionals will meet in a best-of-three Super Regional May 26–27 on the campus of one of the participants.
