2023 All-WWPA Honorees

Four Otters Represented on All-WWPA Team

Shelby Fortune, Allyson Ainsworth, Megan Taylor and Shea Tully honored by conference leading up to postseason play

April 27, 2023

VISTA, CALIF.
Following the culmination of the regular season, the WWPA has named four Otters to their postseason All-Conference list. Shelby Fortune (San Diego/Patrick Henry HS) has been named as a first team member of the All-WWPA team, while Allyson Ainsworth (West Sacramento/River City HS) and Megan Taylor (San Juan Capistrano/Capo Valley HS) have been named as honorable mention All-WWPA honorees. Additionally, Shea Tully (Yucaipa HS) has been named to the WWPA All-Freshman team.

Fortune led the Otter offense for a majority of the season. The sophomore attacker tallied a team-high 40 goals, more than double the next closest Otter, despite missing eight games due to injury. Fortune also tallied 10 assists, 50 points (team-high), drew 17 exclusions and came up with 16 steals. Fortune became the first Otter to score 40+ goals in a season since Marisa Lovos and Morgan Tucker each did it in 2019.

Ainsworth did a bit of everything for the Otters this season, appearing in every game this year. The sophomore attacker finished third on the team with 17 goals and led her squad with 22 assists. Her 39 points ranked second best for CSUMB, as did her 30 drawn exclusions. Defensively, Ainsworth tallied 19 steals, good for second on the team. Her 22 assists rank 23rd all-time for an Otter player in a single season.

Taylor continues to be a steadfast choice between the posts for the Otters. The sophomore broke the 200 save mark for the second consecutive season, joining Jenna Beer and Amanda Jennings as one of the only three Otters to make at least 200 saves in multiple seasons. Taylor also led the Otters with 28 steals while distributing four assists from her goalkeeper position.

Rounding out the group, Shea Tully earned all-freshman honors after a stellar first season. In just 18 games, the utility player out of Yucaipa tallied eight goals and two assists, while drawing eight exclusions and racking up six steals. Despite being just a freshman, Tully provided veteran minutes in the center defender role, shutting down opposing two meter players, and keeping traffic away from her goalkeeper.

"I am incredibly proud of Shelby, Ally, Megan and Shea." stated Head Coach Emily Schmit. "They earned the honors of All-Conference through the work they put in every day at the Otter Tank along with each one of their teammates. It is a great honor for their efforts to be recognized by the WWPA."

The Otters open up WWPA Tournament play tomorrow, as they will take on the top seed from the eastern division and tournament host McKendree University at 9 AM local time (7 AM PST).
