Taylar Yost at Fanelli Classic

Nikanorov and Yost Set New Program Records at Fanelli Classic

15 Otters make presence felt at San Francisco State

April 02, 2023

SAN FRANCISCO –
Cal State Monterey Bay Track and Field continues to prepare for the CCAA Championship, this weekend competing in the Mike Fanelli Track Classic at Cox Stadium.

Two Otter record fell this weekend, as Kseniya Nikanorov (Castle Rock, Colo./Castle View HS) broke the program two mile record and Taylar Yost (Wake Forest, N.C./Wakefield HS) broke her own program 400m hurdles record.

The Otters continue to work their way to peak form, now just one month away from the CCAA Championship.

DOUBLE DUTY FOR NIKANOROV… Kseniya Nikanorov competed in two events at the meet, throwing down PRs in both the two mile and the 5000m. Her two mile time of 11:29.08 was the fastest in program history by more than 30 seconds, while her 5000m time of 18:16.77 was the fourth fastest in program history.

YOST STAYS HOT… Hurdler Taylar Yost continues to rewrite the Otter hurdles history book, with another program record breaking performance in the 400m hurdles. Yost, who set the program record two weeks ago at the Cardinal Classic, broke that record by more than half a second today with a time of 1:05.17.

PRS A-PLENTY… On top of Nikanorov and Yost's strong performances, many other Otters joined in on the PR party. That started on day one of the meet, when Mackenzie Caprino (4:59.92), Kayla Young (5:04.35), Carly Zahrt (5:18.51) and Maya Centeno (5:25.92) all set new PRs in the 1500m. On day two, the Otter 4x400 team (Tsai, Keith, T. Yost, Berganio) ran the second fastest relay in program history at 4:05.08. Day three began not only with Nikanorov's PR at the two mile but also two mile PRs from Ali Keith, Audrey Garcia, and Kim Tovar. Kayla Young added an 800m PR as well, while Mina Tsai set her 100m PR. In the field events, Cierra Verdone set her triple jump PR of 9.95m (32-7.75).

THE LAST WORD… "I am so happy for my team! They stepped up and had more strong performances, in spite of 3 long days and 18+ hours at the track. This team is young. They are learning so well on how to compete with grit and determination!" – Head Coach Greg Rhines

THEY'VE GOT NEXT… The Otters will next be in action at the Brutus Hamilton Invitational, hosted by UC Berkeley. The event will take place on Saturday, April 8.
