March 07, 2023

LAS VEGAS, Nev. — Sophomore Liam Allder (Sundsvall, Sweden) carded a final round 71 to earn a ninth-place finish Tuesday afternoon at the Desert Classic at Boulder Creek Golf Course.

Tuesday's round was the second consecutive 71 from Allder, who finished at 3–over 219 for the tournament. He helped the Otters jump four places in the final standings to 10th place in the 20–team field.

"My young team was overwhelmed by the weather and dormant Bermuda grass, but there were some bright spots," said CSUMB Head Coach Jason Owen. "I'm very proud of how Liam battled and finished ninth. This was a very good field and he showed that he belongs near the top."

The field featured 13 of the nation's Top 50 teams, including five of the Top 10. No. 23 CSUMB earned key head-to-head wins over West Region foes Colorado Mesa (No. 37), Colorado–Colorado Springs (No. 41) and Saint Mary's (No. 42).

Colorado Christian finished at 6–over 870 to take a 4–stroke victory over No. 8 Lee University. No. 21 Missouri–St. Louis, No. 10 Colorado State–Pueblo and No 4 Oklahoma Christian rounded out the Top 5.

For the Otters, Simon Björken (Hudiksval, Sweden) matched Allder's 71 Tuesday and finished in 24th place at 224. Tommy Kimberling (Rancho Cucamonga/Los Osos HS) carded his best round of the tournament with a 73. Jack Deaner (Carmichael/Jesuit HS) closed the scoring for CSUMB with a 78.

Beck Burnette of Lee, who shot 63 in the second round, won medalist honors at 12–under 204. Joel Sylven of UMSL placed second, three strokes back.

CSUMB continues its busy March next week when it heads to the east Bay Area to participate in the Tim Tierney Pioneer Shootout in Alameda Mar. 13–14.
