Otters Place Fifth at Aggie Invitational

Caprino breaks her own steeplechase program record to headline for the Otters in Davis

March 12, 2023

DAVIS, CALIF. –
Cal State Monterey Bay Track and Field put together a very solid showing at the Aggie Invitational, placing fifth out of the 11 schools in contention on Saturday at the Woody Wilson Track.

Nine Otters placed in the top-10 in their respective events, led by Taylar Yost's (Raleigh, N.C./Wakefield HS) second place finish in the 400m hurdles and Mackenzie Caprino's (South Salem HS) third place finish in the 2000m steeplechase.

ALONE AT THE TOP… With her 7:30.46 2000m steeplechase effort, Mackenzie Caprino now owns both of the fastest times in program history in that race. She broke the record of 7:39.08 that she set last weekend at Cal Poly.

THE HURDLER… Monterey Bay hurdles specialist Taylar Yost took part in both hurdles events today, placing seventh in the 100m hurdles and second in the 400m hurdles. Yost's 400 hurdle time of 1:07.22 was the second fastest of her Otter career and the second best mark in program history.

THE JUMPER… Mina Tsai has been a dominant sprinter and jumper for the Otters in her two seasons with the program, but today, focussed just on the long and triple jumps. She performed well in both events, placing sixth in the long jump and fifth in the triple, with both of her jumps landing her in the top-5 in program history. Her long jump of 5.16m (16-11.25) was the third best in program history, while her triple jump of 10.88m (35-8.5) was the fifth bet mark in CSUMB track history.

THE FINAL WORD… "In spite of terrible weather, the women came out and did some wonderful things! A new 2k steeple was set, a #3 all-time mark in the 5k…just for starters! This team is tough, and ready for more strong results!" – Head Coach Greg Rhines

THEY'VE GOT NEXT… The Otters will be back at it next weekend as they head to Stanford for the Cardinal Classic on March 18.
