February 20, 2023

MONTEREY, CALIF. –
Cal State Monterey Bay Track and Field opened their season down the road at Monterey Peninsula College for the MPC Invitational, placing fourth out of the field of 10 teams.

Four different Otters won their events, headlined by Mina Tsai (San Jose/Santa Teresa HS), who won both the 400 meter race and the long jump, while placing second in the 200 meter race. Her 17'0" long jump was the best mark of her career.

Also winning their events were freshman Kseniya Nikanorov (Castle Rock, Colo./Castle View HS) in the 3000 meter race and freshman Denali Ferrera (Sebastopol/Analy HS) in the triple jump. It was quite the track and field debut for these two freshman Otters.

Hurdler Taylar Yost (Raleigh, N.C./Wakefield HS) placed second in both the 100 meter and 400 meter hurdles, joining Tsai as the second Otter to place top-three in multiple events.

The Otters will next compete on March 3 at the Cal Poly Open.
