Björken Earns Top 10 Finish At Fujikura Invitational

SImon Björken finishes 7th, Otters finish 6th at first spring event

VISTA, Calif. — Sophomore Simon Björken (Hudiksval, Sweden) carded an even-par 72 in the final round to earn a seventh place finish at the Fujikura Invitational Tuesday at Shadowridge Golf Club.

Led by Björken's strong tournament, Cal State Monterey Bay finished sixth in the strong 12-team field. The tournament feature nine of the top 41 programs in NCAA Division II play this season, including No. 17 CSUMB.

Björken finished the 54-hole event even at 216, posting rounds 76, 68 and 72. In addition to Björken, fellow Swede Liam Allder (Sundsvall, Sweden) just missed out on his first Top 10 finish of the season, placing 12th at 2-over 218.

CSUMB's other scoring rounds Tuesday came from Jack Deaner (Carmichael/Jesuit HS), who shot 77 and placed 30th overall at 226, and Tommy Kimberling (Rancho Cucamonga/Los Osos HS), whose final round 79 left him in 57th place at 238.

Host Cal State San Marcos defending its team championship by going 287–293–293 (873) to hold off Colorado State Pueblo by two strokes. Pueblo's Matt Millar won medalist honors going away by shooting 9–under 207 for the tournament

The Otters will take next week off from competition before heading to La Quinta to take part in the Desert Invitational Feb. 26–Mar. 1 at PGA West.
