Allder, Team Take Otter Invitational Titles

Liam Allder wins playoff for second career title; Otters beat Chico by one

SEASIDE, Calif. — A pair of fantastic finishes led junior Liam Allder (Sundsvall, Sweden) and the Cal State Monterey Bay men's golf team to the individual and team titles at the 2023 Otter Invitational Tuesday afternoon at Bayonet Golf Course.

Allder earned medalist honors at 6–under 210, defeating Chico's Dakota Ochoa in a 1–hole playoff by making birdie are the par-5 18th. Ochoa had rallied from five strokes back to start the day to force the playoff.

On the team leaderboard, the Otters needed a clutch finish from freshman Will Musson (Clovis North HS) to hold off a late charge from Chico. After the Wildcats had taken a 1–stroke lead late, Musson birdied his final two holes (18 and one) give CSUMB the 1–stroke victory.

"Today was great to see; winning the individual title and the team title is exactly what you want to see," said CSUMB Head Coach Jason Owen. "I look up and down our lineup and I've got so many good players to choose from. If this group continues to work hard and push themselves, there are no limits for them."

In addition to Allder's victory, junior Wilhelm Berg von Linde (Stockholm, Sweden) finished third overall, one stroke behind Allder at 5–under after a 74 Tuesday. Junior Simon Björken (Hudiksval, Sweden), playing as an individual, also earned a Top 20 finish by placing 14th at 2–over.

Junior Jack Deaner (Carmichael/Jesuit HS) carded CSUMB's low round of the day with an even-par 72. Allder and Musson were both 1-over while von Linde and freshman Tony Tao (Eastvale/Western Christian HS) both shot 74.

The Otters head to the Hawiian Islands next week to close the fall portion of their 2023–24 schedule with a pair of tournaments. They'll play at the HPU Sharks Shootout Oct. 24–25 at Mauna Lani Golf Club in Waimea and at the Dennis Rose Invitational Oct. 27–28 at the Waikoloa Village Golf Club.
