Men’s Basketball Notebook: CSUMB Starts CCAA Second Round

Otters ride 3-game winning streak into Thursday rematch at Sonoma State

SEASIDE, Calif. — The Cal State Monterey Bay men's basketball team will ride a 3–game winning streak into a Northern California roadtrip this weekend, beginning with a game at Sonoma State Thursday (Jan. 26). The men will tip-off at 7:30 p.m. as the nightcap of doubleheader action with the Otter women's team.

Time ran out on a furious Otter rally that fell just short in an 81–76 loss to Sonoma State Jan. 7 in The Kelp Bed. CSUMB trailed by 12 with two minutes remaining, pulling within a single possession twice before the Seawolves made a pair of free throws with 12 seconds left to take an 80–76 lead. The Otters failed to score on the ensuing possession and a Sonoma free throw with three-tenths of a second on the clock accounted for the final margin. Levi Frankland and Jailen Nelson led CSUMB with 17 points each. Jaylen Wells led four Seawolves in double figures with 20.

Thursday's game begins the second half of the CCAA schedule. CSUMB (6–10, 4–7 CCAA) begins the stretch run 1.5 games out of a CCAA Tournament position with 10 games remaining.
