Brady Miguel CCAA Player of the Year

Miguel, White Earn Top CCAA Honors For 2022

Brady Miguel named League MVP; Walt White named Coach of the Year

May 16, 2022

SEASIDE, Calif. — Freshman Brady Miguel (San Benito HS) and Head Coach Walt White took top honors as the Cal State Monterey Bay baseball team was well–represented on the 2022 All–CCAA teams as voted on by the conference coaches.

In total, 12 Otters (plus Coach White) earned All–CCAA recognition in 2022, breaking the school record of 11 by the 2015 team. The four first team picks were one short of the team record five set in 2018.

"To be well represented on the All–CCAA team is a testament to the year we've had as a team," says White. "We had some players that had great individual seasons, but those type of seasons only happen when you're surrounded by great teammates who truly care about each other. It makes me extremely proud to lead this team and we look forward to what lies ahead."

Miguel became the first Otter baseball player ever selected as CCAA MVP and just the second Otter ever to win one of the league's top awards. Mark Hurley was named CCAA Newcomer of the Year back in 2013.

Miguel had one of the most dominant seasons by an Otter in program history. He led the CCAA by hitting .422 in league action. He also led the conference in on-base percentage (.522), runs (50) and triples (five) while finishing No. 2 in steals (16).

"Brady Miguel is obviously well deserving of player of the year and we are all more than proud of him. He would be the first to give recognition to his teammates and acknowledge that his success is tied to our team's success. He is without a doubt a great player, but he is even a better teammate and leader," says White.

For his part, White earned his third Coach of the Year award since being named the CSUMB skipper for the 2011 season. He also got the nod after leading the Otters to CCAA titles in 2013 and 2018.

Joining Miguel on the All–CCAA first team were starting pitcher Joseph Standley (Nolanville, Texas/Hope Christian HS), closer Chris Tonna (Fremont/Chabot College) and designated hitter Jacob Martin (Bloomington HS/Chaffey College). Earning second team honors were first baseman Jason Ajamian (Pasadena/CSUN), starting pitcher Ethan McRae (Hanford HS/Fresno CC) and relief pitcher Parker Fokken (Paloma Valley HS/Chaffey College).

Catcher Hunter Harris (Newark Memorial HS/Chabot College), second baseman Nico Hartojo (Arvada. Colo./MPC), outfielders Chase Lindemann (Saugus HS/Hartnell College) and Chris Rubottom (Los Alamitos HS/Long Beach CC) and starting pitcher Ryan Platero (San Benito HS/MPC) all earned honorable mention recognition.
