Björken, Deaner Named To All–Tournament Team At CCAA Championship

Otter freshmen Simon Björken, Jack Deaner finish in the Top 5

BROOKS, Calif. — Freshmen Simon Björken (Hudiksval, Sweden) and Jack Deaner (Carmichael/Jesuit HS) both finished in the Top 5 to earn all–tournament honors at the CCAA Championship Tournament Wednesday afternoon at the Yocha Dehe Golf Club.

Björken followed his historic 64 Tuesday with a final round 70 to tie for second place at 2–over 218. Deaner shot 2–under 70 for the second consecutive day to move up five spots and claim the final place on the all–tournament team at 220.

CSUMB and Chico State were the only schools to place two golfers on the all–tournament team. Matthew Pennington of Cal State San Marcos earned medalist honors with a 2–under 214 for the 54–hole event. Griffin Pace of Sonoma State tied Björken for second place.

Sonoma State won the team title at 885 (+21). CSUMB finished in sixth place at 904.

Next up for the Otters is an expected bid to the NCAA Regional Championship May 5–7 in Pueblo, Colo. Official NCAA selections will be announced on Apr. 22.
