Lauryn Pointer Named Second Team All–CCAA

Otter junior guard led the CCAA in scoring during the regular season

March 02, 2022

SEASIDE, Calif. — Junior guard Lauryn Pointer (Los Angeles/Serra) capped a strong first season at Cal State Monterey Bay by earning second team All–CCAA honors.

The UC Riverside transfer ended the regular season as the CCAA's leading scorer at 15.9 points per game. She is the first Otter ever to accomplish that feat. Her scoring average ranks No. 2 in Otter history, trailing only CSUMB Hall of Famer Dana Andrews' 18.8 ppg average in 2008.

"Lauryn is a dynamic young lady that we were fortunate to be able bring here to CSUMB," says Head Coach CJ Vaifanua-Pace. "Her IQ & ability to score the ball is something we were lucky to have this season. I am proud of her resiliency through injury and adversity. I am excited to watch Lauryn continue to evolve and cannot wait to see her at 100 percent healthy next season."

Pointer led the Otters in scoring in 11 of 15 games this season. She also led the team in 3–pointers (33), 3–point percentage (.359), free-throw percentage (.860) and steals (22).

Although a senior academically who has played four years of collegiate basketball, Pointer will have the opportunity to return for a fifth season in 2022–23 due to the COVID exemption from her 2020–21 season.
