Otters Earn Top Four Finish At Fujikura

Freshmen Jack Deaner (7th) and Liam Allder (10th) place in the Top 10

February 15, 2022

VISTA, Calif. — Led by strong performances from freshmen Jack Deaner (Carmichael/Jesuit HS) and Liam Allder (Sundsvall, Sweden), the Cal State Monterey Bay men's golf team move up two spots to finish fourth at the Cal State San Marcos Fujikura Invitational Tuesday at Shadowridge Country Club.

In cold, rainy conditions, CSUMB shot 298 Tuesday, the fourth best round by any team. That allowed the Otters to slip past CCAA rivals Cal State San Bernardino and Sonoma State. Only host Cal State San Marcos managed to finish above CSUMB amongst the seven participating CCAA schools.

"With five true freshmen in the lineup, we are growing and getting better," says CSUMB Head Coach Jason Owen. "I'm so excited for Jack and Liam. They played great."

Deaner finished off a strong tournament with an even-par 72 Tuesday to earn a share of seventh place at 216 (E) for the 54–hole event. Allder also shot par Tuesday and finished 1–over at 217.

Freshman Simon Björken (Hudiksval, Swden) earned a spot in the top half of the 79–player field by finishing 30th at 227, including a 76 Tuesday. Tommy Kimberling (Rancho Cucamonga/Los Osos HS) and Jacob Van Roekel (El Dorado Hills/Oak Rdige HS) each shot final round 78s.

Host San Marcos took the team title at even-par 864. Christian Schrodt of Dominican University was the individual medalist at 7–under 209.

CSUMB jumps right back into action next week at the Bay Area Invitational Feb. 21–22 at the Club at Ruby Hill in Pleasanton.
