Irvine, Gonzalez Lead Otters At CCAA Cross Country Championship

Lisa Irvine places 25th in women’s 6K; Jaime Gonzalez in 26th in men’s 8K

CARMEL, Calif. — Sophomores Lisa Irvine (Roseville/Woodcreek HS) and Jaime Gonzalez (Camarillo HS) led the Cal State Monterey Bay cross country teams by placing 25th and 26th respectively at the CCAA Cross Country Championships Saturday morning on the Palo Corona Cross Country trail.

Irvine ran her 6K in 23:09.4, nine seconds off her course PR set in September. Freshman Ali Keith (Billings, Mont./Billings West HS). missed her own course PR by 2/10th of a second, running a 23:17.5 to finish 30th.

Kseniya Nikanorov (Castle Rock/Castle View HS) and Angelee Berganio (Santa Clarita/Canyon HS) also earned spots in the top half of the 95–runner field by placing 44th and 47th respectively. Led by that quartet, the Otters placed eight as a team behind repeat champion Stanislaus State.

Led by Gonzalez, the Otter men placed three harriers in the top half of the 76–runner field. He ran a 25:57.4 8K, the fastest time for an Otter in the race by nearly 30 seconds. Connor Farrow (Modesto/Beyer HS) was the next Otter finisher in 36th place at 26:26.5. Nathan Garcia (El Centro/Southwest HS) was just three seconds back in 39th place.

As a team, the Otter men placed ninth behind Chico State, which won its 20th consecutive CCAA men's cross country championship title.

The Otters will take a weekend off from competition before a making a trip to Billings, Mont. for the NCAA Division II West Region Championship race at Amend Park on Nov. 19.
