Records Fall As Otters Conclude Regular Season

Jaime Gonzalez breaks MB 8K record at Bronco Invitational

October 16, 2022

BRONCO INVITATIONAL RESULTS

SANTA CLARA, Calif. —
The Cal State Monterey Bay cross country teams finished their 2022 regular seasons in spectacular fashion, breaking one school record while nearly every Otter established a personal record at the Santa Clara Bronco Invitational Saturday on the Baylands Park course.

The Otter men finished 22nd and the women finished 23rd in the NCAA Division I dominated fields. But big individual improvements were the highlight in this day.

Saturday's biggest run came from sophomore Jaime Gonzalez (Camarillo HS), who broke Connor Henderson's school record with an 8K time of 24:28.1. Henderson set the previous mark of 24:30.4 on the same Baylands Park course in 2015.

Gonzalez need that result just to hold off teammate Nathan Garcia (El Centro/Southwest HS), who ran the seventh–fastest 8K in CSUMB history with a 24:52.7

CSUMB's other men's PRs came from:
Lisa Irvine (Roseville/Woodcreek HS) led the women, posting the 16th fast 6K in Otter history with a PR of 21:58.5. Only Hannah Bell, Jessy McIntyre and Brooke Roy ever ran faster in an Otter jersey. Freshman Kseniya Nikanorov (Castle Rock/Castle View HS) added the No. 22 6K time in Otter history with a 22:17.3.

CSUMB's other women's PRs came from:
"I am so proud of these teams," says Head Coach Greg Rhines. "I don't think a coach can ask for much more than for a student-athlete going out there and doing their best…and then they all do exactly that! Jaime resetting our men's 8k record was a wonderful moment."

CSUMB will take next week off before hosting the 2022 CCAA Cross Country Championship Meets Nov. at the Palo Corona Cross Country Trails.
