Simon Björken at 2021 Wildcat Classic

Allder, Björken Earn Top 10 Finishes At Wildcat Classic

Freshman Swedish duo helps Otters place fifth in the team standings

October 12, 2021

CORNING, Calif. — Freshmen Liam Allder (Sundsvall, Sweden) and Simon Björken (Hudiksval, Sweden) earned top 10 individual finishes as Cal State Monterey Bay placed fifth as a team at the Chico State Wildcat Classic Tuesday afternoon at The Links at Rolling Hills.

The tournament was scheduled originally for 54 holes. Sustained winds of 20–plus miles per hour wreaked havoc with Monday morning's opening round and cancelled Monday afternoon's second round. Conditions improved a bit Tuesday as the teams scores came down significantly for the final 18 holes.

Allder, playing as an individual, shot even par 72 Tuesday to climb to a fourth place finish at 6–over 150. Björken was CSUMB's top team finisher, shooting 73 Tuesday and placing one stroke back in 10th place at 151.

Freshman Jack Deaner (Carmichael/Jesuit HS) also carded a 72 Tuesday and earned a share of 25th place at 159 with fellow Otter freshman Kyle Kuest (Clovis West HS). Palma High grad A.J. Fitzgerald just missed a spot in the top half of the field, placing 32nd of 61 golfers at 160.

Stanislaus State won the team title, followed by Western Washington, Academy of Art, Sonoma State and CSUMB. Art's Matthew Watkins won medalist honors at 2–over 146.

CSUMB will close the fall portion of its 2021–22 schedule next Monday and Tuesday (Oct. 18–19) by hosting the annual Otter Invitational at Bayonet Black Horse Golf Course.
