Calling All Otters: The Athletics Alumni Challenge Begins

CSUMB’s Otter Alumni Challenge aims to raise support, strengthen bonds

SEASIDE, Calif. — Beginning today (Oct. 5) Cal State Monterey Bay Athletics is launching the Otter Alumni Challenge to strengthen bonds with student–athlete alumni while growing support for current Otter student–athletes.

Each of CSUMB's 13 intercollegiate teams is challenged to engage its alumni with the aim of increasing both alumni involvement and support for the current Otter student–athletes. Thanks to the generosity of current Otter boosters, contributions will be matched based on the level of engagement.

"We want everyone who has competed and worn the CSUMB colors with pride to feel 'in the know' and a part of our continued growth as a University and department," says Director of Athletics Kirby Garry (@kirbygarry). "I'm especially excited for alums to hear from and engage with our head coaches about their visions and insights specific to their programs."

Beginning with today's kickoff, the challenge will run for three weeks, through Oct. 23. Each team has its own participation goals. The team with highest participation percentage will receive additional rewards.

All funds raised during the challenge will directly support the donors chosen team, enhancing both scholarship and general program needs. Donations are also tax deductible to the extent allowed by law (contact your tax professional for additional information).

"This has been a long time coming," adds Garry. "With 25 years of Otter Athletics, we are excited to challenge our current teams and alums to come together around our shared goal of student–athlete success."
