Elis Svard and the Otters both in fifth place with 18 holes to play

BELLINGHAM, Wash. — Senior Elis Svard (Sodertalje, Sweden) and Cal State Monterey Bay will enter Tuesday's final round amongst the leaders at the Western Washington Invitational. Both Svard and the Otters sit in fifth place after 36 holes Monday at Bellingham Golf and Country Club.

Svard shot even–par 72 in the morning and 3–under 69 in the afternoon to lead CSUMB. Senior Brian Whitson (Advance, Mo./Logan College) also earned a spot in the Top 15 with a 4–under early round and a 4–over late round to place 13th.

Freshman Kyle Kuest (Clovis West HS) got his collegiate career off to a strong start by navigating his first 36 holes at 1–over, including a 72 in the afternoon round, good for a share of 25th place. Sophomore Hayata Utsunomiya (Osaka, Japan) posted CSUMB's other scoring rounds of 76 and 73.
Freshman Ryan Parry (Sacramento/Jesuit HS), playing as an individual, shot 1–over in the afternoon and sits in 37th place amongst the 102–player field.

Rain played with the leaderboard a bit in the morning round, but better weather allowed several teams to go low in the afternoon. NCAA Division I bound Dixie State went 15–under in the afternoon to earn a 6–stroke advantage on the team leaderboard at 9–under 567.

Concordia–Portland and Simon Fraser University are six strokes back at 573. Stanislaus State (577) and CSUMB (578) round out the top five.

The Western Washington Invitational concludes Tuesday with 18 holes.
