Elis Svard is a second team selection, Matthew Hedges is an honorable mention pick

SEASIDE, Calif. — Cal State Monterey Bay junior Elis Svard (Sodertalje, Sweden) and senior Matthew Hedges (Ashland [Ore.] HS) added some additional hardware to their trophy cases by earning NCAA Division II PING All–America honors as selected by the Golf Coaches Association of America.

Svard appears on the list for the second consecutive season, this time as a second team selection. Hedges was an honorable mention pick.

It's the third all–region nod for Svard, who was an All–American as a sophomore in 2018. Hedges is on the All–America team for the first time.

"I am extremely proud of both Elis and Matt. They carried us all year and are most deserving of the awards," says CSUMB Head Coach Jason Owen. "I know we will miss Matt next year and I expect Elis will keep adding to his already impressive collegiate career."

Svard led the Otters to a fifth place finish at the NCAA National Championship. He finished 11th individually at the national championship after placing eighth at the NCAA Regional Championship.

Svard was runner–up for medalist honors in CSUMB's run to the 2019 CCAA Championship. For the season, Svard led the team with a 71.94 stroke average, an .880 winning percentage and seven Top 10 finishes in 12 starts.

For his part, Hedges unseated defending champion Svard to win his first CCAA Individual title this season. He finished just behind Svard with a 72.66 stroke average and an .778 winning percentage. He claimed five Top 10 finishes and three Top 5 finishes in 2019.

Svard and Hedges became the 14th and 15th Otters to earn NCAA Division II All–America honors since the 2009 season. Svard will look to join Dylan Jackson (2010, '13, '14) as the only Otter golfers to earn three All–America awards when he returns for his senior season in 2019–20.
