Otters Close SoCal Trip With Sweep At Dominguez Hills

Samantha Brennan leads the way with 7 kills, 5 blocks in 25–21, 25–22, 25–16 win

SEASIDE, Calif. — The bus ride home from Southern California will be a pleasant one for the Cal State Monterey Bay volleyball team after finishing its trip with a 25–21, 25–22, 25–16 sweep of Cal State Dominguez Hills Saturday at the Torodome.

The Otters eased away late in the first set, played through 14 ties and four lead changes before pulling out the second set, then never trailed while coasting home in the third.

Samantha Brennan (Huntington Beach HS) and Baylie Pierson (Vista Murietta HS) led a balanced Otter offense with seven kills apiece. The duo combined to make just one error in 24 swings and hit .542 for the match.

Brennan added a match–high five blocks. Erica Chapa (San Benito HS/Gavilan College) and freshman Sophia Torres (Temecula/Chaparral HS) combined for 27 assists.

THE MATCH WAS OVER WHENSamantha Brennan and Anela Visesio combined to stuff Alani Carter at the end of a 5–0 run that made it 12–6 CSUMB in the third. The Toros never got closer than five points the rest of the way.

ROAD SWEET ROAD… Saturday's win improved CSUMB's record to 7–4 away from home this season. The seven road wins are already the fourth most in a season in program's NCAA Division II history and the most since the 2013 Otters won a record nine road matches.

OTTER FEAST ON TOROS… Saturday's win was CSUMB's 19th all–time against Cal State Dominguez Hills (19–8). That's the most Otter volleyball wins against any one opponent. For what it's worth, the Otters have 17 wins against Stanislaus State (17–12) and 15 against Humboldt State (15–9).

SHE'S ACES… With two aces Saturday night, Ashlynne Armstrong tied Dana Grimm (2007–10) for No. 4 on the CSUMB career aces chart with 98. Next up is former Otter libero Dionna Lucas (2008–11) with 116 aces.

THE BLOCK PARTY CONTINUES… Chandler McKean, Samantha Brennan and Anela Visesio each continued their climbs up the CSUMB block assist career record list Saturday night. With three blocks, McKean passed Amber Tygart (2014–17) for No. 6 at 163. With five blocks, Brennan passed Janai Johnson (2012,14) with 124. With three blocks, Visesio tied Kerri Sudarsana (2006–09) with No. 17 at 106.
