Stephanie Busch, Madison Aguirre named honorable mention All–CCAA

SEASIDE, Calif. — A 2018 season which saw the Cal State Monterey Bay women's soccer team in contention for a postseason bid until the final day netted the Otters a pair of All–CCAA selections. Goalkeeper Stephanie Busch (Santa Cruz HS) and striker Madison Aguirre (Las Vegas, Nev./Palo Verde HS) each earned honorable mention honors, the conference announced Thursday.

"I'm happy that Stephanie and Madi were honored for having strong seasons," says CSUMB Head Coach Laura VanWart. "I truly believe Stephanie was the best goalkeeper in the conference this season. I also want to recognize Taylor Duplantier, who had a senior season that I believe was worthy of recognition as well."

Busch enjoyed arguably the greatest season for a goalkeeper in CSUMB history. Not only did she set the CSUMB record for shutouts in a season with eight, she ranked second in the CCAA and 38th nationally in saves (101) while setting the CSUMB single–season record with a .878 save percentage.

Aguirre used her blazing pace to establish herself as CSUMB's most dangerous striker in 2018. She led the team with two game–winning goals and a .143 shooting percentage while finishing second amongst the forward line with 1,106 minutes played.

CSUMB finished the 2018 season 7–7–3 overall and 4–6–2 in the CCAA. The 24 points earned in all matches played tied the Otter season record since moving to the NCAA Division II level, while its seventh place finish in the CCAA tied the 2013 squad for the best in program history.
