ARCATA – The Cal State Monterey Bay women's soccer team wrapped up the weekend with a hard-fought 3–0 loss on the road against Cal Poly Humboldt on Saturday afternoon at College Creek Field.
The Otters held their own through stretches of play but were unable to overcome Humboldt's early scoring surge.
The Lumberjacks struck first in the 14th minute when Kyla Okamoto finished off a setup from Nicole Beauchemin. Humboldt doubled its lead late in the first half, as Sari Murphy capitalized on a feed from Frida Duran Arellano and Camryn Patten to make it 2–0.
Despite facing pressure, goalkeeper
Olivia Wynn tallied one save in the opening frame before giving way to freshman
Willow Baltazar, who recorded two second-half saves in relief.
The Otters created a few promising chances, including efforts from
Chloe Van Winkle,
Juliana Dow, and
Leah See, who each registered shots on target. However, Humboldt's defense and goalkeeper tandem combined for the shutout.
The hosts sealed the match in the 73rd minute when Annie Hoffman converted a penalty kick to push the score to 3–0.
The Otters will close out their regular season on the road at San Francisco State. The two teams will clash on Thursday, Nov. 6, at 2 p.m.
