BOX SCORE MOE MELHART POSTGAME VIDEO
SEASIDE, Calif. — After dropping a tough CCAA opener on the road in Hayward Wednesday night, the Cal State Monterey Bay volleyball team bounced back Friday win a convincing 25–16, 25–14, 25–10 win over Humboldt State in The Kelp Bed. The win moves CSUMB to 7–3 overall and 1–1 in the CCAA.
Humboldt (1–6, 0–1) scored the first four points of the match, but it was all CSUMB after that. The Otters broke a 10–10 tie by finishing the first set with a 15–6 run. They raced to 15–6 leads to open the second and third sets and never looked back in earning their seventh sweep of the season.
CSUMB used a balanced offense with seven different attackers registering kills Friday night.
Maddy Underwood (Spokane, Wash./Mead HS) and
Anela Visesio (Seaside HS) led the way with 11 kills apiece.
Amber Tygart (Yucaipa HS) hit .462 with seven kills and just one error in 13 swings.
Erica Chapa (San Benito HS/Gavilan College) quarterbacked an efficient .311 hitting night.
THE MATCH WAS OVER WHEN… an
Erica Chapa kill capped a 15–6 run to open Set 2. They would do the same in Set 3 as they controlled the night.
ANOTHER .300 NIGHT… With Friday's .311 performance, the Otters now have hit .300 or better in four of their last seven matches. They have tied the 2009 Otters for the most times hitting .300 or better
in an entire season.
HITTING LIGHTS OUT… In case you're wondering, the CSUMB record for attack percentage for a season is .216 set in 2013. The Otters raised their current season attack percentage to .280 with Friday's effort.
THE UNDERWOOD 500… With 11 kills Friday night,
Maddy Underwood became the 10th player in Otter history to surpass 500 career kills (505).
Anela Visesio (491) should be joining that club shortly.
