BOX SCORE TURLOCK, Calif. -- Cal State Monterey Bay baseball team went into a pivotal 4-game series at Stanislaus State with conference and NCAA postseason implications. The Warriors plated two runs in the bottom of the first inning which proved to be the difference in the 5-3 loss for the Otters on Friday night.
The Otters got on the board in the fourth inning and were able to cut deficits, but could not find a shut down inning allowing the Warriors to answer back each time CSUMB plated a run. The Otters had opportunities to even take the lead but could not find a timely hit in game that set the tone for the rest of the series.

ON DECK... Despite giving up a two run home run in the bottom of the first inning, CSUMB starting pitcher
Greg Steinbeck pitched well going five innings with three earned runs and four strikeouts.
Nick Vigo and
Ruben Gonzalez record an RBI each in the loss.
IN THE HOLE... The magic number for the Otters to clinch a CCAA Tournament berth is five. A combination of Cal State East Bay losses and Otter wins adding up to five will secure a playoff spot.
THE LAST WORD... "It was a good game between two good teams. Stanislaus State played a little better than we did tonight. We had a few opportunities late to take the lead but were unable to capitalize. We will be ready to get back after it tomorrow."
