SEASIDE, Calif. — Red-hot Stanislaus State spoiled the Cal State Monterey Bay home opener by taking a 25-17, 25-15, 25-22 decision Friday night in The Kelp Bed in a rare nonconference match between the CCAA rivals.
Stanislaus improved to 5–0 for the first time since its 1999 squad opened the season with a school-record six consecutive wins. The Otters fell to 1–4
Senior
Jessica Malcolm (Lodi HS) led the Otters for the fifth consecutive match with eight kills.
DJ Gresham-Ryder (Stockton/Chavez HS) chipped in a match–high four blocks while
Rachel Cookus (Thousand Oaks HS) led all defenders with 19 digs.
The Otters jumped out to an 8-2 lead to open the match before the Warriors used an 8-2 run of their own to tie it at 10. They followed that with a 7-2 run to take control of the first set.
Stanislaus didn't trail again until the Otters took a 5-4 lead in a competitive third set that ultimately went to the Warriors to close the match.
The Otters continue their 4-match homestand Tuesday when they host Cal State L.A. in their CCAA opener. First serve in The Kelp Bed is at 5 p.m.
