SEASIDE, Calif. — If the Cal State Monterey Bay women's golf team doesn't make the NCAA Regional field in two weeks, it will have finished its 2014–15 season with a flourish, turning in its most consistent performance of the season to finish third at the Interwest Chico State Invitational Monday at Butte Creek Country Club.
In a first for CSUMB this season, the teams played all 36 holes in one day. The Otters were as steady as they could be in the unusual format, with all 10 rounds coming in between 75 and 81. That performance gave CSUMB a third place finish at 626, 12 strokes behind winner Sonoma State.
Senior
Arielle Swan-Smith (Sunnyvale/Fremont HS) strengthened her case for an at-large spot in the NCAA Regional by finishing fifth overall with rounds of 75 and 78 (153). Freshman
Brianna Areia (Roseville/Woodcreek HS) and sophomore
Katrina Mendez (Salinas/Trinity Christian) recorded matching rounds of 79 and 78 to tie for 12th at 157.
Freshman
Keila Takeuchi (Fresno/Clovis West HS) closed the CSUMB scoring at 79-81-160. Fellow freshman
Blake Haverty (Martinez/Carondelet HS) was just one stroke behind her at 81-80-161.
The Otters will take next week off as they await the announcement of the NCAA Regional Tournament field. The regional will take place May 4-6 at Foxtail Golf Club in Rohnert Park.
GO OTTERS!
