CARMEL, Calif. – In a tournament that features nine nationally-ranked teams, including three in the top-five, the Cal State Monterey Bay women's golf team is tied for sixth after two rounds at the Patriot Invitational hosted by Dallas Baptist University, held at nearby Quail Lodge Golf Club.
The Otters are at 45-over after 36 holes, opening the day at 19-over and then carding a 26-over in the second round to head into the third and final round at 613.
"Overall, we had a good day today when it came to the results," CSUMB head coach
Jim Ragan said. "The course played really tough in the afternoon and we, like many teams, felt like we left a lot of strokes out there that we should not have given up. This is probably the strongest field the women's program has ever played in. We are looking forward to tomorrow's final round."
Audrey Cheng paced CSUMB in the first two rounds to sit in 12th at 8-over for the day. The freshman opened the tournament at 2-over and then closed the day at 6-over, carding six birdies, including an eagle on the par-5 ninth in the opening round.
Freshman
Khivi Kaur and senior
Cathy Tong are tied in 20th at 10-over. Kaur also eagled the par-5 ninth, while Tong carded back-to-back 76s.
Sophomore
Morgan Pittman (+19) and freshman
Esther Sheu (+20) are in 51st and 53rd, respectively.
Maisy Lu, playing as an individual, is also in 51st.
The Otters will conclude the tournament tomorrow, with tee times set at 9 a.m.
