SEASIDE, Calif. -- In a rare Monday morning game, the Cal State Monterey Bay Baseball team set to wrap up its 4–game series with Cal State L.A. The Otters struck first, but the one run would be all they would get out of the stagnant offense, losing the game 5–1 and the series 3–1 at Reeder Field.
A
Matt Urakami (San Jose, Calif. / Branham HS) RBI single in the second inning put the Otters on top 1–0 early. However, CSULA starter Bryan Conant (3–2) silenced the CSUMB offense by not allowing the big hit to the Otters. CSUMB had its chances to score but stranded nine men on base, while striking out seven times.
Cody Gappa (Corning, Calif. / Red Bluff HS) pitched six full innings and fanned six batters, but allowed the Golden Eagles to come from behind and score five times, handing the senior his second loss of the season (3–2). Kyle Peralta highlighted the CSULA offense with his two–RBI single in the hosts three–run fifth inning, getting the Golden Eagles to their eventual four–run win.
Urakami and
Kevin Davidson (Yucaipa HS) combined for five of the Otter's seven hits in the game, while
Bryan Bostjancic (Forest Knolls, Calif. / Sir Francis Drake HS) and
Curtis Gomez (Watsonville, Calif. / St. Francis HS) contributed the other two.
The Otters fall to an 18–10 overall record and are in second place in the CCAA with a 14–6 record. Monterey Bay will stay on the road next weekend when they visit the Wildcats of Chico State for a 4–game series beginning on Friday, March 27, at 6 p.m.
Go Otters!
