SAN DIEGO — Senior
Arielle Swan-Smith (Sunnyvale/Fremont HS) shot a 76, the second-best round of the day by any golfer, to vault up to an 11th place finish at the Super San Diego Collegiate Championship Tuesday at the Riverwalk Golf Course.
Swan-Smith moved up nine places thanks to her strong final round. She was one of four Otters who improved on their first round scores as CSUMB shaved eight strokes off its opening round team score.
Combined with her first round 79, Swan-Smith finished the 36-hole event at 11-over 155, good for a share of 11th place. Sophomore
Katrina Mendez (Salinas/Trinity Christian) also earned a top 25 finish as her rounds of 80 and 82 (162) netted her a share of 24th.
Freshman
Keila Takeuchi (Fresno/Clovis West HS) made the biggest improvement by an Otter Tuesday, shooting 80 to improve by 12 strokes from her Monday round. Fellow freshman
Blake Haverty (Martinez/Carondelet HS) closed out CSUMB's scoring Tuesday with an 86.
Cal Baptist recorded the low team score for the second consecutive day, shooting an aggregate 311 Tuesday to win the team title by 16 strokes at 613. First round leader Haley Dunn of Dixie State matched Swan-Smith's 76 Tuesday to earn medalist honors at 2-over 146.
The Otters will take a week off from competition before heading to the Lone Star state to take part in the St. Edward's Invitational Feb. 23–24 in Austin.
