BOX SCORE
TURLOCK, Calif.—The Cal State Monterey Bay volleyball team literally served up a victory Friday night, registering 12 aces in a 25–23, 25–23, 32–34, 25–20 win at Cal State Stanislaus in Fitzpatrick Arena.

The 12 aces were the fourth–most in a 4–set match and eighth most in any match in Otter history. They were the most aces in a match since the Otters served a school–record 14 aces in a 5–set match versus Humboldt State on Sept. 18, 2009.

Junior setter Leana Moleta (Palmdale/Paraclete HS) led the serving charge, registering a career–high five, tied for the No. 3 mark in Otter history.
Of course, if the serving didn't do the job, the Otter block probably would have. CSUMB compiled 11 total blocks, including 18 block assists. They represented the most block assists in a 4–set match for the Otters since they put down 18 in a win over Cal State East Bay on Nov. 1, 2011.

Sophomore DJ Gresham-Ryder (Stockton/Chavez HS) led the way at the net, tying her career high with nine total blocks, the No. 3 mark all time at CSUMB.

"Grit is the word of the match," said CSUMB Head Coach Jody Garry (Jody Garry">@JodyGarry). "It was very hot and humid in the match. We won the mental battle and we won the match too."

Despite the heady statistics, the Otters found themselves in a street fight in all four sets. They never led by more than four points in winning the first two sets 25–23. They finally gained some separation by building a 21–14 lead late in Set 3, but that turned out to be a mirage.

Stanislaus rallied, staving off two match points to tie the set at 24–24. CSUMB earned six more match points, but the Warriors saved each one before scoring the final three points to win 34–32, ending the longest set for CSUMB volleyball since Sept. 12, 2009.

The Otters bounced back from the tough loss to lead nearly wire–to–wire in Set 4. Like in the previous set, however, they built a seemingly comfortable lead only to see Stanislaus rally.

CSUMB led 18–12 when the Warriors came back to within 23–20. This time the Otters dug in and stopped the rally with an Amber Tygart (Yucaipa HS) kill. A Stanislaus error on the ensuing match point sealed the win.

In addition to her five aces, Moleta passed for a career–high 40 assists and added a career–high 14 digs. Jessica Malcolm (Lodi HS) led the Otter offense with 14 kills. Julia Ashen (North Salinas HS) added 11 kills and a season–high 17 digs for her second double–double of 2014.

The Otters will continue their 4–match roadtrip Saturday night at Chico State.
