Kristen Womack scored both Otter goals Tuesday vs. UC Santa Cruz.
BOX SCORE SEASIDE, Calif. — The Cal State Monterey Bay women's soccer team had to wait five extra days to get its match in with UC Santa Cruz after logistical issue pushed the kickoff from Sept. 11 to Tuesday afternoon. Junior midfielder
Kristen Womack (Roseville/Woodcreek HS) made sure the result was worth the wait, notching her first collegiate double to lead the Otters to a 2–0 win at the Otter Sports Complex.
Womack staked the Otters to a 1–0 lead when she ran unmarked to the near post to bundle home a
Regan Porteous (Lodi/St. Mary's HS) corner in the 18th minute. Although Santa Cruz supporters would probably have considered the score a soft one due to a defensive lapse, it was well–deserved given CSUMB's positional and possessional dominance through the first 45 minutes.

This time, she rewarded some nice set–up work from
Michelle Garrone (Petaluma HS), beating her defender to Garrone's pass on the Banana Slug doorstep to finish with a sliding, left–footed effort.
UCSC stepped up its efforts after the second Otter goal and finished the second half with a 4–2 advantage in shots. The Banana Slugs appeared to create a few chances, but
Courtney Gaardsmoe (Los Angeles/Notre Dame Academy) alertly snuffed out the most dangerous of them. Freshman goalkeeper
Samantha Webb (Murietta Valley HS) did the rest to earn her second shutout in three collegiate starts.
Head Coach
Erin Reinke used the 2–0 advantage to give her reserves some extra time and received noteworthy efforts off the bench from
Mariya Fefilova (Turlock HS) and
Taylor Greenwood (Norco HS).
CSUMB (2–2–0 overall) returns to action Sunday, Sept. 21 when it hosts Dominican University in its final tuneup before beginning CCAA play Sept. 26 at Sonoma State. UCSC (4–4–1) plays at Cal State Stanislaus Thursday evening.
GO OTTERS!
