TURLOCK, Calif. -- Make it a baker's dozen for the No. 15 Cal State Monterey Bay softball team, which ran its school-record winning streak to 13 games with three victories on the opening day of the 13th annual Tournament of Champions Presented by the Turlock Convention and Visitor's Bureau.

CSUMB improved to 31-5 overall, the best start in school history, by shutting out Hawaii Pacific 3-0 and Academy of Art 2-0 at Pedretti Park before moving to Warrior Field on the campus of Cal State Stanislaus to defeat Dominican University 8-3.

Cori Reinhardt (Riverside Poly) tossed a 2-hitter to win the opener over HPU, tying Jessica Boyle's school record with her 48th career win in the process. Reinhardt also scored the winning run in spectacular fashion, racing home from second base on Madison Casto's (Sunnyvale/Homestead HS) sacrifice fly to the fence in straight away center in the fourth inning.

Casto added an RBI single and Anneliese Lopez (Ventura/Buena HS) and RBI double in the sixth as insurance that Reinhardt didn't need.

Lindsey Clarkson (Fresno/Central HS) was even more dominant in the win over Academy of Art. Although she yielded three hits--all infield singles--she didn't allow a ball to leave the infield in the game, finishing with seven strikeouts against no walks.

Clarkson returned to pitch the final four shutout innings to earn the win over Dominican in Friday's finale, improving her record to 16-2. She hasn't allowed a run in her last seven outings, raising her scoreless innings streak to 39 1/3 innings.

The normally active Otter bats remained mostly silent during the day before springing to life after the sun went down. Bianca Noriega (Ventura/Camarillo HS) led the late explosion by hitting a school-record three doubles as part of her 4-for-4 performance against Dominican.

Noriega drove in four runs while Reinhardt, Danica Arterburn (Sparks, Nev./Spanish Springs HS) and Alissa Greenhaw (Galt/Cosumnes River College) each scored twice. Noriega's 2-run double to deep left highlighted a 5-run second inning which provided more than enough support for an Otter defense that has allowed more than three runs in a game just seven times in 36 games this season.

Arterburn was the only Otter to hit safely in all three games Friday, finishing the day 3-for-8 with a pair of runs. Trina Solario (Manteca HS) was the only Otter aside from Noriega and Lopez to record an extra base hit Friday, chipping in a double in the win over Hawaii Pacific.

CSUMB will look to keep its win streak going when it concludes pool play Saturday at Pedretti Park. The Otters take on No. 2 ranked Cal Baptist at 1:15 p.m. before closing the day against Chaminade University at 5:45 p.m. Live stats for both games will be available at www.OtterArthletics.com.

GO OTTERS!
