Jeff Owen (Clovis East) tossed a three-hit complete game shutout as the Cal State Monterey Bay baseball team split Saturday's twinbill against visiting San Francisco State at the Otter Sports Complex.
For the fifth time this season, the Otter saw their lead disappear in the opponents' final at-bat as SF State put together a four-run rally to win game one 6-4.
CSUMB outhit the Gators in both game, putting together 10 and nine hits to SF State's five and three. Senior
Travis Bonner (Los Gatos/West Valley College) batted a team-high .625 with five hits on the day.
The Otters return to SF State to conclude the four-game series on Sunday, March 9. First pitch is at noon.

GAME 1: SF State 6, CSUMB 4
Senior
Cannon Bernarding (San Jose/West Valley College) got CSUMB on the board with a 2 RBI double to the left field corner. Junior
Brian Hamm (Pleasanton/Chabot College) followed with a RBI single through the right side to make it 3-0 CSUMB.
SF State cut the gap to 3-2 with a pair of runs in the top of the sixth. Grady Espinosa had a leadoff double. After Mark Lindsay drew a walk, both runners advanced 90 feet on a sacrifice bunt to third base. Garrett Hesinger hit a double down the left line to plate both runners.
With two outs, the Otters added another run in the seventh on three consecutive CSUMB singles by
Richie Johnson (San Leandro/San Jose State), Bonner and
Blake Grant-Parks (Yuba City/Sierra College).
Taking advantage of two Otter errors, SF State put together four unearned runs in the top of the ninth capped by a game-wining 2 RBI single up the middle by Lindsay.
CSUMB starter
Chris Daniels (Citrus Heights/Sierra College) got a no decision after throwing five and one-third innings, giving up two runs on four hits while fanning five batters and walking four.

GAME 2: CSUMB 4, SF State 0
The Otters spread out four runs in the final three frames as Owen earned his fourth win of the season.
Owen put together three consecutive one-two-three innings before SF State earned its first hit, a single by Dillon Meyer, of the nightcap. Meyer advanced two bases on a sacrifice and wild pitch. After walking Espinosa, Owen picked him off after he took a large lead off first. Owen got out of the inning after Lindsay flew out to right field.
In the fourth, Johnson sent the ball over SF State's centerfielder for a triple to plate Hurley after he hit a one-out single. Johnson scored on Grant-Parks single thru the middle.
The Otters added a run in each of their final at-bats. In the fifth,
Matt Urakami (San Jose/Branham HS) led off with a double to right center, advanced on freshman
Josh Heinz's (Santa Clarita/West Ranch HS) single and scored on a sac fly by Hurley. With one out in the sixth, Grant-Parks doubled to right center and then scored on
Michael Lonsdale's (Castro Valley/Chabot College) double down the left line.
