TURLOCK, Calif. -- After seeing its school–record 10–game winning streak snapped Friday, the No. 16 Cal State Monterey Bay softball team began a new streak Saturday by sweeping a doubleheader at Cal State Stanislaus. Cori Reinhardt (Riverside Poly) tossed a complete game 3–hitter to win the opener 5–1 before recording the final four outs to earn the save in a 9–5 nightcap victory.

Batterymate Nicole Pires (Ontario/Colony HS) gave Reinhardt all the support she would need with a 2–run double in the second inning of the opener. The Otters took advantage of some sloppy Stanislaus fielding to bolt to an 8–2 lead in Game 2 before a late Warrior rally called Reinhardt back to action to shut the door.

Freshman center fielder Anneliese Lopez (Ventura/Buena HS) led a balanced Otter offense by going 4–for–8 with a double, two runs and two RBIs Saturday. She was one of seven different Otters to post at least one multi–hit game in the doubleheader.

Lopez and Pires combined to drive in all five runs in the Game 1. After Amy Droege's 2–out single cut the CSUMB lead in half in the fourth inning, Lopez singled home runs in the fifth and seventh to sandwich Pires' run–scoring single in the sixth. That provided ample support for Reinhardt (9–3), who fanned six while winning her sixth consecutive decision.

Things got a bit dicey for CSUMB after a pair of Stanislaus throwing errors helped stake the Otters to a big lead in the series finale. Junior third baseman Alissa Greenhaw (Galt/Cosumnes River College) inserted herself into the middle of both plays.

Her second inning sacrifice attempt drew a wild throw from Droege that allowed Bianca Noreiga (Ventura/Camarillo HS) to score from second following a leadoff double. With Otters on first and third in the fifth, Greenhaw beat out an bunt single. When Stanislaus first baseman Kristan Burns turned and saw she had no play on Greenhaw, she spun and tried to catch pinch runner Brittani Newman (Hollister/San Benito HS) leaning off third. But Burns' wild throw went all the way into the leftfield corner, allowing both runners and Greenhaw to score.

With the game seemingly in hand, Otter starter Lindsey Clarkson (Fresno/Central HS) tired in the sixth. She yielded a pair of 2–out walks in front of Cierrah Mullins, hit went deep to pull Stanislaus back to within 8–5.
After another walk, Reinhardt came in and coaxed Angela Mendoza to ground to second to end the rally.

Courtney Varela's (Harbor City/Torrance HS) single cashed in Greenhaw's leadoff triple in the top of the seventh before Reinhardt needed just 10 pitches to close the sweep with a 1–2–3 bottom of the seventh.

CSUMB (20–5, 12–4 CCAA) will take next week off from conference action to host Pace University from New York on Thursday, March 20. The Otters return to CCAA play by hosting San Francisco State for a 4–game set beginning March 28 at the Otter Sports Complex.
