ROHNERT PARK, Calif. — The Wolves Den continued to be a tough place for the Cal State Monterey Bay volleyball team to play Saturday night when CCAA–leading Sonoma State took a 25–14, 25–20, 25–20 decision in CSUMB's final road match of the season.
Jessica Malcolm (Lodi HS) led the Otters with eight kills, bringing her season total to 286, and moving her within 24 of of a second spot on the CSUMB single season top 10 list. Junior middle blocker
Victoria Clardy (Westminster/Marina HS) added a team–high four blocks.
Sonoma raced to an early lead and never looked back in winning the first set. The second set remained close throughout until the Seawolves scored the final three points to keep the Otters at bay.
The third set began much like the first. This time, however, the Otter dug deep for a big rally, using a 7–0 run to trim a 23–13 deficit to 23–20 before Sonoma finally stemmed the tide and closed out the match.
The Otters return home next week to play their final two matches of 2014, beginning Friday night against Cal Poly Pomona. The Otters will host UC San Diego Saturday for senior night, giving fans the chance to say farewell to
Julia Ashen (North Salinas HS) and
Kelsey Johnston (Ripon HS), who will be playing their final collegiate matches.
GO OTTERS!
