BOX SCORE HAYWARD, Calif. – The Cal State Monterey Bay men's soccer team fell behind early, but fought back only to run out of time, dropping a 3-1 decision to Cal State East Bay Friday night at Pioneer Stadium.
The Otters fall to 4-2-1 overall and 2-2-1 in conference play while the Pioneers (1-6-0, 1-4-0 CCAA) earned their first win of the season.
The Pioneers wasted no time getting on the board, scoring in just the third minute of play on a header by Arthur Ethel.
CSUEB's Trey James scored back-to-back goals in the 58th and 62nd minute to put the Pioneers up 3-0.
The Otters prevented a shutout in the 86th minute. Junior
Anthony Velazquez got the ball in midfield, dribbled past a CSUEB defender and sent the ball from 18 yards out to the back of the net.
CSUEB had an 18-8 shot advantage but the Otters took eight corners to the Pioneers five.
The Otters continue their two-game road series on Sunday, Sept. 29 with a stop in Turlock to face Cal State Stanislaus. Kickoff is 2 p.m.
