Godfryd Posts Shutout as Otters Blank Cal State Dominguez Hills

Otters strike twice in 41 seconds during second half to earn first CCAA victory

SEASIDE, Calif. — Jerry Godfryd made his first appearance of the season count, recording a five-save shutout as Cal State Monterey Bay broke through offensively in the second half to defeat Cal State Dominguez Hills, 2-0, Saturday afternoon at Cardinale Stadium.

The victory moved the Otters to 5-2-3 overall and 1-1-3 in CCAA play, giving CSUMB its first conference win of the season.

Making his season debut in goal, Godfryd played all 90 minutes and turned away all five shots on target. He made two saves in the opening half before adding three more after the break to preserve the clean sheet.

While Godfryd and the Otter defense kept Dominguez Hills off the scoreboard, the CSUMB attack continued applying pressure before finally breaking through in the 73rd minute.

Aziah Nelson provided the breakthrough in the 72nd minute, scoring his first goal of the season off assists from Angad Bains and Mason Ward. Just 41 seconds later, Nelson helped create another goal, setting up Ward for his fourth of the season and quickly turning a scoreless match into a 2-0 Otter advantage.

CSUMB continued to push forward throughout the second half, producing eight shots and three corner kicks over the final 45 minutes. Nelson provided an immediate spark off the bench, finishing with a goal and an assist in 38 minutes, while Ward added a goal and an assist of his own.

The Otters finished with a 16-15 advantage in shots and a 6-4 edge in corner kicks. Kai Martin put two of his three attempts on frame, while Sylas Sells led CSUMB with six shots.

For Godfryd, the shutout provided an impressive start to his 2026 campaign, while CSUMB's second-half breakthrough helped the Otters secure three points and return to the win column in conference play.

The Otters hit the road to face UC Merced on Friday, Oct. 9. Kickoff is scheduled for 5 p.m. at Bobcat Field.
