POMONA, Calif. — Cal State Monterey Bay earned another point on the road Sunday afternoon, battling Cal Poly Pomona to a 3-3 draw at Kellogg Stadium.
The Otters (4-2-3, 0-1-3 CCAA) put together an explosive opening half, getting goals from
Kai Martin,
Olof Larsson and
Josiah Siqueiros to take a 3-0 advantage into halftime.
Martin wasted little time putting CSUMB on the board, finding the back of the net just 2:22 into the match. The goal was Martin's seventh of the season, continuing an impressive start to his first campaign with the Otters.
CSUMB struck again in the 37th minute when Larsson scored his first goal of the season, doubling the advantage. The Otters added another before the break as Siqueiros scored his first of the year at 42:33 off an assist from
Fernando Caballero, sending Monterey Bay into halftime with a three-goal cushion.
The two sides finished even with 11 shots apiece and four shots on goal each, while CSUMB generated seven of its 11 attempts after halftime.
Angad Bains led the Otters with three shots, while Martin and
Philip Wolny recorded two apiece.
The draw gave CSUMB its third point through four CCAA matches and moved the Otters to 4-2-3 overall. It was also Monterey Bay's third draw in its last four conference contests.
The Otters will have nearly a week off before returning home to Cardinale Stadium on Saturday, Oct. 3, to host Cal State Dominguez Hills in CCAA action.
