SAN MARCOS, Calif. — Cal State Monterey Bay couldn't overcome a late first-half goal as the Otters fell to Cal State San Marcos, 4-0, Thursday afternoon at The Cage.
CSUMB (4-2-2, 0-1-2 CCAA) generated several opportunities early, putting three of its first three shots on frame.
Mason Ward forced a pair of saves in the opening seven minutes before
Josh Moll tested the San Marcos goalkeeper in the 14th.
The match remained scoreless until the final seconds of the opening half, when San Marcos broke through with 12 seconds remaining to take a 1-0 advantage into the break. The Cougars added three goals in the second half to pull away.
Ward led the Otters with two shots, both on goal, while Moll and
Fernando Caballero also put attempts on frame.
Jacob Aiona made four saves in his first start of the season.
CSUMB finished with five shots, four on goal, and four corner kicks. The Otters will look to bounce back as CCAA play continues.
The Otters continue their Southern California road trip with a Sunday contest at Cal Poly Pomona.
