Sophomore Kristen Womack and the Otter offense dominated throughout the 110 minutes.
BOX SCORE SEASIDE, Calif. – For the first time since Cal State Monterey Bay Head Coach
Erin Reinke took the reigns three years ago, the Otter women's soccer team played a total of 120 minutes. CSUMB drew a 1-1 tie with visiting Cal State L.A. Sunday afternoon at the Otter Sports Complex.
"We came out aggressive and ready to play today," Reinke said. "Our early goal showed how fired up we were from the beginning."
Junior midfielder
Jami Murray (Newbury/City College of San Francisco) recorded her fourth goal of 2013, a team-best. Junior defender
Shoshana Wangerin (Pleasant Hill/College Park HS) dribbled through two CSULA defenders and dished the ball to Murray who took a great first touch before ripping a shot from 18 yards out.
In the 77th minute, the Golden Eagles found the equalizer on a breakaway by Andrea Lammers.
In her second start of the season, junior keeper
Lily Garza (Redwood City/City College of San Francisco) grabbed six saves.
The Otter offense reached double-digits in shots for the fourth time in six games, outshooting CSULA 15-12.
"I thought we played well on both sides of the ball, unfortunately we weren't able to fight back from the goal we gave up late in the game," Reinke said. "Even though we tied today, I was truly proud of the team's performance today.
"We will go back to work this week and get ready to play next weekend."
The Otters take to the road for the first time in CCAA play, traveling to Cal State East Bay on Friday, Sept. 27. Kickoff is 4:30 p.m.
