Erin Reinke concluded her fifth season at the helm of the Cal State Monterey Bay women’s soccer program in 2015 and brings a large recruiting class into the 2016 season.
2015 was an off year for CSUMB, but after a determined spring and a crop of incoming players, the Otters look to have a bounce back season in 2016. Coach Reinke loses her senior all-region players in Kristen Womack and Regan Porteous, but brings in two DI transfers along with 13 new players to the program.
2014 was an offensive year for the Otters, scoring the most goals in a season (20) in program history. They averaged 5.6 shots on goal per game and scored an average of 1.2 goals per game, also the best program marks to date.
Since Reinke came on board the women's soccer team has excelled in the classroom as well. the team has sported the highest GPA in the CCAA twice.
On the field, CSUMB has had student-athletes consistently on First, Second and Honorable Mention All-CCAA teams.
Formerly an assistant coach at Cal Poly Pomona for three seasons prior to her arrival at CSUMB, Reinke helped guide the Otters to their most successful season in program history in 2012. She recieved her NSCAA National Diploma during the summer of 2016.
“We had a lot of firsts in 2012,” Reinke said. “Wins against programs we have never beaten before, a season sweep and a win over a nationally ranked team. One of the biggest firsts was being the pioneer northern school to achieve a weekend sweep at Cal State L.A. and Cal State Dominguez Hills in September.”
The Otters set records in wins (8) and conference wins (5) in 2012. The young squad also pulled off an overtime victory at then No. 14 Chico State before returning home to clinch the program’s first CCAA sweep later in the season.
In 2011, the Otters won the program’s first National Soccer Coaches Association of American (NSCAA) Team Academic Award. With a 3.36 team GPA, the Otters had the highest among the CCAA schools.
At Pomona, Reinke was responsible for recruiting and primarily training the defense and goalkeepers. Under Reinke’s assistance this season, CPP fell by only a one-goal difference in both match-ups against eventual NCAA Division II National Runner-up UC San Diego. She also assisted in fundraising and organizing camps and clinics.
Prior to Pomona, she was the keepers coach for one season at Long Beach State. She also coached club soccer in Palos Verdes for three years. Reinke also served on the coaching staff for the nationally-recognized Soccer Plus goalkeeper camp in La Jolla.
Reinke spent 2005 through 2007 playing as an amateur and professional in the Elite Division for women in Denmark. In that three-year span, she played for four teams including one full season with Fortuna Hjorring – one of the top women's teams in the world. She completed her playing career in 2008 with the Ottawa Fury, a member of the USL W-League, who reached the league finals against FC Indiana.
Reinke was the first ever in-state recruit for Arizona State University. A four-year starter at goalkeeper for the Sun Devils, Reinke led ASU to the NCAA Tournament as a senior, losing in the second round to eventual National Semifinalist, University of Portland. She remains the career leader in saves and shutouts at ASU.
