Regan Porteous, Hannah Cobb and Jami Murray celebrates after one of the Otter's five goals scored against HSU

Head Coach Erin Reinke is teaching the team how to handle pressure

SEASIDE, Calif. – The Cal State Monterey Bay women's soccer team entered the 2013 season with a goal to improve on last year's success. The Otters have already taken the right steps to reach that goal.

We have become more dangerous in attacking by moving the ball quicker up the field than last year," said Head Coach Erin Reinke.

The Otters had a record-breaking performance in their conference opener against Humboldt State but had to settle for a CCAA split last weekend after falling to No. 14 Sonoma State.

"The team is in the process of learning how to handle pressure," Reinke said. "There are different kinds of pressure: the pressure to win, the pressure we put on ourselves individually to perform well, the pressure for the team to perform well, and the pressure from our opponents on the field.

"Learning how to handle pressure starts at every practice by being consistent."

CSUMB will be tested again this weekend, hosting two strong teams from the CCAA South Division. The Otters will face Cal State Dominguez Hills at 12:30 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 20 before Sunday's match-up against Cal State L.A. at 11:30 a.m.

"Our goal is to have another strong week of practice to prepare for Friday and Sunday," Reinke said. "It is one game at a time to find consistency in our team's performance.

"We will improve everyday and learn from every game."
