INDIANAPOLIS – The No. 5 Cal State Monterey Bay men's golf team finished fifth in its fall debut at the Indianapolis Brickyard Invitational at the Brickyard Crossing Golf Course. Junior
Brandon Hortt (San Diego/SDSU) and sophomore
Anton Rosen (Stockholm, Sweden) recorded the Otters' top individual finishes, as the duo shared ninth place at 1-over par 217.
Hortt (69-77-71) carded a 71 to move up six spots and finish in the top 10. Over 54 holes, Rosen (70-74-73) sank 12 birdies.
"We played a solid tournament though I would not say it was our best," said CSUMB Head Coach
Jason Owen. "I think we have a lot of improvement to do but it is a solid start to the year."
Senior
Dylan Jackson (San Diego/La Jolla HS) finished at 6-over 222 to tie for 24th place. In his collegiate debut, freshman
Nick Huff (Vancouver, Wash./Hockinson HS) finished tied for 50th at 13-over 229.
Sophomore
Chris Jodis (Savannah, Ga./Savannah Christian Prep) turned in a 246 for 87th place.
Individual medalist Adam Svensson shot a convincing 14-under 202 (66-68-68) to lead the Barry Buccaneers (280-284-292 – 856, -8) to the team title.
"We have about two weeks off before we go to the golf week tournament in Oregon," Owen said. "Hopefully by then we are little more prepared and play a little better."
The Otters return to the links Monday, Sept. 30 to compete in the Golfweek Invitational in Sunriver, Ore.
