SACRAMENTO — The Cal State Monterey Bay cross country teams put together more solid showings in their second meet of 2013 as senior
Ben Garland (Santa Cruz/Harbor HS) placed second overall on the men's side while sophomore
Hannah Bell (Yorba Linda/Esperanza HS) led the Otter women to a second place showing at the Hornet Jamboree on the Granite Regional Park course.
Garland shaved more than 30 seconds off his personal record on the course, recording a time of 20:00.9 to place second behind Ressey Byers of host Sacramento State. Freshman
Connor Henderson (South Lake Tahoe HS) also scored in a Top 10 position, scoring 10th in a time of 20:46.5 on the 4–mile course.
Bell led the Otter women by finishing seventh overall at 18:18.7, 28 seconds better than her finish on the 5K course last season. Freshman
Jessica McIntyre (Los Alamitos HS) and junior
Jennie Yeaman (Escondido/Mission Hills HS) also scored in the Top 10, placing eighth and 10th respectively.
"Another well executed day across both rosters," said CSUMB Head Coach
Greg Rhines. "The entire women's team found personal bests, which included another reset of Hannah's MB record in the 5K.
"On the men's side, Garland threw down the hammer today, besting his MB 4–mile record by nearly 30 seconds. In all, nine of the men had PRs today.
"The buzz continues, and it's cause lands squarely on the men and women of CSUMB cross country."
The Otters will race for the third consecutive weekend when they head to Santa Rosa and Spring Lake Regional Park for the Sonoma State Invitational Saturday morning.
