Otters celebrate after George's walk-off double in the doubleheader opener.

BOX SCORE 2 SEASIDE, Calif. – A
Tommy George (Elk Grove HS) walk-off double and another gem by
Jeff Owen (Clovis East HS) led the Cal State Monterey Bay baseball team to a twinbill sweep over No. 23 Sonoma State Saturday at the Otter Sports Complex.
The Otters (23-10, 15-8 CCAA) clinched the series with scores of 8-7 and 1-0.
George went 4-for-6 with two doubles on the day. Senior
Victor Rasor-Thompson (San Diego/Univ. of San Diego) and junior
Mark Hurley (Hollister/College of San Mateo) each chipped in two hits and a run.
CSUMB concludes it series with Sonoma State on Sunday, April 7 with an 11 a.m. first pitch.
GAME 1: CSUMB 8, SSU 7
George's walk-off double capped a ninth inning rally as the Otters posted their second come-from-behind victory in the Seawolf series.
Down 7-4 entering their final at-bat, CSUMB's first two batters, senior
Nolan Murray (San Diego/Stealle Canyon) and junior
Michael Lonsdale (Castro Valley/Chabot College), got on base after being hit by Sonoma State reliever Steven Zaharias. Rasor-Thompson followed with a single up the middle to load the bases. Senior
Brian Haggett (Hollister/West Valley College) drew a four-pitch walk to plate Murray and make it 7-5. After Hurley hit a deep sacrifice fly to left field, George took his second pitch to deep left-center to give CSUMB the 8-7 win.
The Seawolves got two runs on the board in the first inning and extended their lead to 3-0 in the third. After SSU
tacked on two more runs in the top of the fourth, the Otter offense came alive with three runs in the bottom of the frame. Senior
David Garcia's (Gilroy/Mission College) hit a 2 RBI single through the left side and classmate
Ronnie Fhurong (Hollister/San Benito) knocked in another run to narrow CSUMB's deficit to two runs at 5-3.
Sonoma State tacked on single runs in the fifth and seventh, while CSUMB put one up in the bottom of the eighth to bring the total score to 7-4 going into the final inning.
Senior
Jonas Noack (San Diego/UOP) threw two hit-free innings with two strikeouts to earn his first win of the season. Junior
Will Anderson (Pleasanton/Fresno State) tossed five and one-third innings while allowing six runs – five earned – on eight hits for a no decision.
Zaharias was tagged with the loss after leaving the game with the tying and winning runners on base.
GAME 2: CSUMB 1, SSU 0
Owen (7-1) threw his second 1-0 complete game shutout of 2013 (first coming against Western Oregon on March 16), giving up only five hits while striking out nine batters.
The game's lone run came in the bottom of the second when senior
Jason Merjano (San Ramon/Sierra College) reached on a SSU error that brought George home. George hit a one-out double and stole third to set up the eventual winning run.
The Otters only allowed two SSU runners to advance past first base as the Seawolves outhit CSUMB 5-3.
SSU's Glenn Wallace took his first loss of the season.
