Otters defeat Cal State Stanislaus 6-1 for seventh straight win

BOX SCORE SEASIDE, Calif. – The No. 12 Cal State Monterey Bay secured its seventh straight win Friday afternoon with a 6-1 decision over Cal State Stanislaus at the Otter Sports Complex.

With the win, CSUMB (23-10 CCAA) is a half-a-game back on Cal State L.A. (24-10) in the CCAA standings. An Otter doubleheader sweep or a split and Cal State East Bay loss on Saturday will clinch CSUMB's first CCAA Championship appearance.

For his eighth win of 2013, junior Will Anderson (Pleasanton/Fresno State) gave up an unearned run on five hits while fanning five batters and walking two.  Junior Rickey Guerrero (Stockton/MPC) tossed two hit-free innings and racked up three strikeouts.

Senior Ronnie Fhurong (Hollister/San Benito HS) and junior Mark Hurley (Hollister/College of San Mateo) led the Otter offense with two hits and an RBI apiece.  Six of the Otters' 10 hits were doubles.

Senior David Garcia (Gilroy/Mission College) got things started for the Otters with a solo homer to lead off the second inning.   With two outs, juniors Cannon Bernarding (San Jose/West Valley College) and Michael Lonsdale (Castro Valley/Chabot College) hit back-to-back doubles to raise CSUMB's lead to 2-0.

The Warriors scored their lone run in the fourth on a Clint Brill single that plated Tynan Pedretti.

CSUMB put together consecutive RBI doubles in the bottom of the fifth by Haggett and Hurley to make it 4-1.

The Otters extended their lead to 6-1 with a two-run eighth inning highlighted by a Fhurong RBI Texas-Leaguer double to right field.

CSUMB travels to Turlock for a Saturday doubleheader to beginning at 11 a.m.
