Otters Shutout By Wildcats In Series Opener

24th ranked CSUMB unable to produce runs on Friday

BOX SCORE SEASIDE, Calif. – The No. 24 Cal State Monterey Bay baseball team dropped a 6-0 decision to No. 4 Chico State in the series opener Friday at the Otter Sports Complex.
 
The Otters fall to 13-7 overall and 8-5 in CCAA play while the Wildcats (12-1, 5-0 CCAA) remain unbeaten in conference.
 
Senior Brian Haggett (Hollister, Calif./West Valley College) led CSUMB, going 3-for-4 with two doubles.  Senior Jesse Olson (Citrus Heights, Calif./Sierra College) and junior Cannon Bernarding (San Jose, Calif./West Valley College) were the only other Otters to collect hits. 
 
After the Wildcats scored a run in the first, CSUMB starter Chris Daniel (Citrus Heights, Calif./Sierra College) and Chico State starter Nick Baker each tossed five shutout innings.
 
A two-run homer by Blake Gibbs extended Chico State's lead to 3-0 in the sixth.  The Wildcats put the game out of reach in the ninth with back-to-back doubles by Pierson Jeremiah and Ronnie Galosic, making it 6-0.
 
The series continues Saturday with a doubleheader beginning at 11 a.m.
