GAME 1: CSUMB 5, WOU 2
After scoring every inning in Friday's series opener, it took the Otters three innings to get on the board. Fhurong led off with a walk and advanced to third on a
Michael Lonsdale (Castro Valley, Calif./Chabot College) single down the right line. Senior
Victor Rasor-Thompson (San Diego, Calif./Univ. of San Diego) grounded out down the first baseline and Fhurong dove under the airborne Wolf catcher.
Fhurong singled and scored again in the fifth on a fielder's choice by Lonsdale.
On the first pitch of the sixth inning, Haggett crushed his third home run of the season over the right center wall. Junior
Mark Hurley (Hollister, Calif./College of San Mateo) singled but out on the next play due to a
Jason Merjano (San Ramon, Calif/Sierra College) fielder's choice. Garcia sent the ball over the opposite wall, raising his season total to five and extending CSUMB's lead to 5-0.
The Wolves prevented a shutout with two runs in the top of the ninth.
Junior
Will Anderson (Pleasanton, Calif./Fresno State) earned his fifth victory, tossing seven innings and giving up only five hits. WOU's Gary Steindorf took the loss after relinquishing five runs in 5 2/3 innings.
GAME 2: CSUMB 1, WOU 0
The series finale was a true pitching duel between Owen and WOU's Zach Nuno. Owen struck out a career-high 11 batters and walked three in his six innings of action. He allowed only two hits while closer
A.J. Quintero (Vacaville, Calif./Sacramento CC) tossed a hitless seventh for his fourth save.
The lone run came in the fifth when pinch hitter Merjano beat out a bases-loaded infield throw.
