BOX SCORE SEASIDE, Calif. – The Cal State Monterey Bay baseball team set a school record for margin of victory on Friday with a 20-3 pounding of Western Oregon at the Otter Sports Complex.
The 20 runs and 24 hits tied a school record as CSUMB improved to 16-8 overall while the Wolves fell to 11-9. Highlighted with five runs in the fifth and seventh, CSUMB put up runs in every inning.
Senior
Ronnie Fhurong (Hollister, Calif./San Benito HS) led CSUMB, going 4-for-5 with a double, two runs and an RBI. Juniors
Michael Lonsdale (Castro Valley, CAlif./Chabot College) and
Mark Hurley (Hollister, Calif./College of San Mateo) added three hits apiece.
Seniors
Jason Merjano (San Ramon, Calif./Sierra College) and
Brian Haggett (Hollister, Calif./West Valley College) both hit three-run homers in the first and fifth innings respectively. Junior
Nick Parent (Palo Cedro, Calif./Delta College) crushed his first homer of the season, a two-run slam off the Otter scoreboard in the seventh.
Junior
Chris Daniels (Citrus Heights, Calif./Sierra College) (3-3) earned the win, giving up only one run while striking out four batters in five innings of work. Four other Otters combined in the effort.
Daniel McNabb led WOU, going 4-for-4 with an RBI. Spenser Watkins took the loss after relinquishing six runs in 1 1/3 innings.
CSUMB will wrap up its three-game series against the Wolves Saturday, March 16 with a doubleheader beginning at 11 a.m.
