BOX SCORE SEASIDE, Calif. – It took a two-out, walk-off single by senior
Tommy George (Elk Grove HS) for the Cal State Monterey Bay baseball team to continue their season-opening winning streak. The Otters defeated Central Washington 10-9 in their series opener Thursday afternoon.
The Otters improve their record to 4-0 while the Wildcats are still searching for their first win of 2013.
CSUMB spread out seven runs in the first four innings to take a 7-1 lead. The Wildcats put up a six-run fifth inning and added two more runs in the seventh to take their first lead of the game.
The Otters evened the game at 9-9 in the eighth when George and
Victor Rasor-Thompson (San Diego, Calif./Univ. of San Diego) scored on a wild pitch by CWU's Jeff Gonzales.
Starting pitcher
Chris Daniels (Citrus Heights, Calif./Sierra College) tossed four innings, surrendering only two hits and an earned run. He struck out four batters and walked none. Junior
A.J. Quintero (Vacaville, Calif./Sacramento City College) picked up his second win after pitching a scoreless inning of relief.
George drove in two runs and scored twice as part of a three-hit afternoon, which included his first stolen base of the season. Senior
Brian Haggett (Hollister, Calif./West Valley College) went 3-for-5 with a run.
Kyle Sani led the Wildcats with three hits including a solo home run and a double.
The CSUMB-CWU four-game series resumes Friday, Feb. 9 for a 2 p.m. first pitch.
